Benton Consolidated High School District 103 Board of Education met Nov. 14.

The Board of Education of the Benton Consolidated High School District #103 met in Special Session on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 5:30 P.M. in the Benton Consolidated High School Board Room. Mark Minor, President, called the meeting to order.

Opening prayer was led by Mark Minor. Jay Copple led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board members present: Mark Minor, President; Marci Glover, Secretary; Shane Cockrum, Jay Copple, Stacia Sloan, and Robin LaBuwi.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Sean Docherty, Principal; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; Kenise Head, Recording Secretary; Bryan, Christen and Olivia Drew; Lester, Shannon, Chloe, Camdyn and Presley Hill; Kirk and Brandi Kay; Kiley Docherty; Kyle Bacon; Kiley Cox; Carrie Fuson; Char Mumbower; Nicole Rechsteiner and Mitch Bennett.

4. SEAT NEW BOARD MEMBER

4.1 Previously appointed at the October 17, 2024 Board of Education meeting was Mitch Bennett. Mitch Bennett took the oath and was seated as Board of Education member.

5. COMMENTS FROM VISITORS

Mr. Minor addressed the public, and shared a statement regarding professionalism and legal procedures in which the Board of Education must abide.

Kiley Docherty expressed her concerns regarding a BCHS faculty member.

Carrie Fuson expressed her concerns regarding a BCHS faculty member.

Mr. Giacone reiterated legal matters and the formalities in which things must occur.

6. (CLOSED) EXECUTIVE SESSION

6.1 Appointment/Compensation/Discipline/Performance of Personnel

Jay Copple made the motion to enter into Executive Session to discuss the Appointment, Compensation, Discipline, Performance of Personnel. Shane Cockrum seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

The Board; Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; and Kenise Head, Recording Secretary entered into an Executive Session in the Executive Board Room at 5:44 P.M.

Open Session – The Board reconvened in an Open Session at 7:33 P.M. Marci Glover, Secretary called the roll. Answering present: Shane Cockrum – yes, Jay Copple – yes, Mitch Bennett – yes, Marci Glover – yes, Mark Minor – yes, Stacia Sloan – yes and Robin LaBuwi – yes.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Sean Docherty, Principal; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; and Kenise Head, Recording Secretary.

7. BOARD OF EDUCATION REMARKS

Robin LaBuwi congratulated Mr. Minor for his grandson’s football recognition.

8. ADJOURNMENT Jay Copple made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 P.M. Mitch Bennett seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.
