Cougars Drop Two to Receiving Votes Taylor

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (9-9, 6-6 CL) lost both games of its doubleheader with RV Taylor University (19-9, 12-2 CL) on Wednesday, March 22 at Cougar Field.

MVNU lost game one by a score of 10-7. After trailing 8-1, MVNU fought back to make it 8-7. However, the Trojans tacked one two insurance runs in the ninth and held the hosts to take the first game of the day. Offensively, the Cougars scored their seven runs on 16 hits, with Rider Minnick and Joe Poremsky each getting three hits. Casey Kalman added a three-run homerun and Hogan Heck also homered. Jarin Bertke took the loss on the mound for the Cougars.

In game two, it was all Taylor. The visitors scored 14 runs on 14 hits and starting pitcher Matt Dutkowski allowed only three hits and struck out nine MVNU batters to keep the hosts contained. The Trojans hit two homeruns in game two and strolled to a 14-2 victory. Johnny Nixon got the loss in game two.
