FOIA Request to City of Orient Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, North Egypt News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Orient. We are seeking access to records detailing newly registered businesses within the city from the previous week. Specifically, we have requested information including the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format. Access to these public records is crucial for us as media professionals to fulfill our responsibilities in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
Additionally, we have requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information as members of the media. Our efforts are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
