CHI BOARD OF HEALTH: St. Francis Breaks Ground on New Cancer Treatment Center

Chi Board of Health issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.

CHI Health St. Francis took a ceremonial step forward today with the blessing and groundbreaking for our highly-anticipated new Cancer Treatment Center.

Bishop Joseph Hanefeldt performed the blessing for a crowd of approximately 200 people, including community members, physicians, and staff. Dr. Doug Clark, Dr. David Crockett and Dr. Ryan Ramaekers were among the first to break ground for the new facility. The celebration which included remarks by St. Francis President Ed Hannon, Dr. Clark and Community Board Chair Terry Pfeifer.

Construction on the ground-level 41,000-square-foot building will be complete in fall 2019. Attached to St. Francis with a breezeway, the larger space will feature a new TrueBeam® linear accelerator, healing garden, meditation space, and a Renewed Hope boutique.

"Once we transition over to our new space, our patients can expect to visit their same trusted caregivers to receive the same quality care they have grown to expect from our nationally-ranked center," said Max Norvell, director of Oncology. "We grow by 500-600 patients each year, and this new space that nearly doubles the size of our current facility will allow us to offer additional services to benefit our cancer patients."
