JEFFERSON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT: Property Tax Bill

Jefferson County Health Department issued the following announcement on Aug.21.

Property Tax Bills for Real Estate should be in your mailbox within the next few days. If you do not receive a tax bill, be aware that it is still your responsibility to pay your tax bill on time. Due dates will be September 20 for the First Installment. and November 20 for the Second Installment. If you do not receive your tax bill before the first due date you must contact our office and be sure to pay your taxes on or before the due date to avoid interest penalties that are mandated by law.

Payment Options:

Payments can be Mailed to or Paid in person at:

Collector, 100 South 10th Street, Room 100, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.

Include payment stub with check or money order.

Payment is considered "on time" if postmarked on or before the due date.

Do not mail cash.

Most Local Banks accept payment at the counter inside. You must have the tax bill with you.

Pay on-line: Visit jeffersoncountyillinois.com and click "Pay Online"

You may use a credit or debit card, or an e-check.

There is a fee for this service. No part of that fee goes to the county.

Pay by Escrow account: Contact the Mortgage company if you have questions.

Again, it is the property owner's responsibility to pay the taxes on time even if a bill has not been received. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office.

Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
