Woodlawn Unit School District 209 students suspended 21 times in a single school year

Woodlawn Unit School District 209 reported 21 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 21 students during the year. That equates to 4.1 percent of the 518 students enrolled.

Of the 16 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 12 incidents. There were four incidents of violence without physical injury. For 10 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes three incidents. There were one incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For two incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
