Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District 196 students suspended 26 times in a single school year

Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District 196 reported 26 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 26 students during the year. That equates to 3.8 percent of the 682 students enrolled.

Of the 26 out-of-school suspensions, including 15 elementary or middle schoolers and 11 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 24 incidents. There were two incidents of violence without physical injury. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
