City of Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.
The City of Mt. Vernon is replacing the current water metering system with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to allow for more accurate and faster collection of water usage reading than the current manual method. This is part of the larger plan for improving the City’s water distribution system. The replacement project will begin with installing data collectors and 60 water meters beginning September 24, 2018 to test and optimize the conversion of the manual read meters to the AMI system. The full meter replacement project will begin mid-October 2018. The project is expected to be completed in 4-6 months. Contractors replacing the meters will begin work at 8 a.m. If your meter is outside of your residence or business, you do not have to be home for the meter to be replaced. This work will take approximately 20 to 40 minutes. For meters that are inside a structure, the contractor will make arrangements with the owners to facilitate the meter replacement. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation through this project.
