Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met July 19. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on July 19, 2018 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Dave Larkin, Sara Hays, Eric Helbig, and Sandra Kabat.

A motion was made by Chris Bunting and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve consent agenda items as presented.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Chris Bunting, yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Steve Danner to go into closed session at 6:04 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Chris Bunting, yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chris Bunting and seconded by Chad Phelps to return to open session at 7:00 p.m.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Chris Bunting, yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Jeff Burkett to acknowledge the retirement requests of Lynette Leffler and Debra Chauncey but not to approve any details until legal counsel obtains clarification from TRS on the new regulations.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Chris Bunting, yes.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Chris Bunting to hire Megan Hargett as a part-time music teacher for the 2018-2019 school year at a salary rate appropriate to experience per the salary schedule.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chris Bunting and seconded by Steve Danner to hire Bria Scott as a teacher for the 2018-2019 school year at a salary rate appropriate to experience per the salary schedule.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chris Bunting and seconded by Steve Danner to hire Sara Wiggins as social worker for the 2018-2019 school year at a salary rate appropriate to experience per the salary schedule.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Chad Phelps to hire Sam Root as the high school baseball coach for the 2018-2019 school year at a salary rate of 8+ years’ experience.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve the 2nd reading of the press policy changes, with the exception of 6135 & 750.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Steve Danner to adjourn @ 7:24 p.m.
