Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 reports that by a vote of 7-0, the Board of Education approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Elmhurst Teachers’ Council on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. The Elmhurst Teachers’ Council voted in the majority to approve the agreement on October 2, 2018
The new agreement will be retroactive to July 1, 2018 and will extend until June 30, 2021. This agreement provides an increase in base salary to recruit and retain teachers of high caliber and opportunities for teachers to continue their professional development. Teachers also agreed to extend their work day for the purposes of increasing student supervision and professional collaboration.
“We are pleased to announce the settlement after a very professional, collaborative negotiation season with our teachers’ union,” said Board President Kara Caforio. “The agreement allowed D205 to be fiscally responsible while placing the emphasis on honoring the experience of our teachers and professional collaboration all while focusing on what is best for students.”
According to Elmhurst Teachers’ Council President Max Schoenberg, “The teachers sought an agreement that would promote a high quality education for all students, emphasize a culture of social and emotional growth, maintain fiscal responsibility, and retain innovative and collaborative teachers. This agreement puts students first and provides a competitive level of compensation and benefits to help make District 205 a destination district for our talented, hard-working teachers, who continue to go above and beyond every day.”
The Elmhurst Teachers’ Council represents over 700 teachers, reading specialists, counselors, psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, instructional coaches, deans and librarians, in all thirteen schools in District 205
