SSM HEALTH GOOD SAMARITHAN HOSPITAL - MT. VERNON: SSM Health names Michael Richards as System Vice President, Government Affairs and Public Policy

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.

SSM Health has named Michael Richards as System Vice President, Government Affairs and Public Policy, effective Oct. 1. In this role, Richards will be responsible for leading public affairs and government relations initiatives across the four-state system and directing the development of a comprehensive advocacy network to address and influence public policy priorities.

Richards brings more than 17 years of diverse experience in government relations, public policy, community involvement, marketing and communications, supply chain and purchasing, and project management. He most recently served as Executive Director of Government Relations and External Affairs for Wisconsin-based Gundersen Health System, where he was responsible for community and government relations across three states and at the federal level.

Prior to his time at Gundersen Health, Richards served as Director of Government Relations for Harley-Davidson Motor Company and as Policy Advisor and a Chief of Staff in the Wisconsin State Senate. He also has served in board leadership roles for a number of community organizations.

“Michael brings extensive government affairs experience and leadership to SSM Health,” said Doug Long, General Counsel for SSM Health. “He’s a great addition to our organization and will play a key role in driving our public policy initiatives and helping ensure that SSM Health continues to deliver exceptional, compassionate care in the communities we serve.”

Richards earned a bachelor’s degree in political science - legal studies from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh.
