The City of Benton Zoning & Planning Commission met Sept. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

Roll Call: Shockley, McGuire, Cockrum, Clark, Payne-Hubler, Neal, Collier. Also present: David Garavalia, Zoning Administrator, Jerry Edgin of Plainfield, IL.

A motion to approve minutes from August 1, 2018 Regular Business Meeting as presented was made by McGuire, seconded by Neal. Ayes: Shockley, Shockley, McGuire, Cockrum, Clark, Payne-Hubler, Neal, Collier Nays:

The commission listened to a presentation by Mr. Jerry Edgin of Plainfield, IL regarding container homes. Mr. Edgin.

Miscellaneous Business: Ms. Payne-Hubler brought up her concern regarding the overall cleanliness of the city and inquired how much time was afforded to Mr. Garavalia for code and ordinance enforcement. She expressed concern that Mr. Garavalia had many other responsibilities and not enough time left for zoning duties. She expressed this was a problem with previous administrations also and believes too much responsibility is given to the zoning administrator that cannot be executed without additional help. She expressed concern that enforcing codes and ordinances should be handled by a dedicated code enforcement officer at least part time. She also expressed her belief that the city has progressively gotten worse over the past two years with the overall appearance.

Having no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Collier, seconded by Shockley at 7:15 pm
