SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
"The wife of someone Amber knows was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. A hospice referral was made; however, the family was required to fill out a Public Aid application before being accepted. As their religion does not permit them to apply for Aid, Amber worked with the patient to arrange her medications, but could not figure out how to get the medications she needed for pain and seizure control. Amber shared her concern with Becky, who in turn brought the concern to Palliative Care. As the patient couldn't see Dr. Latchman in his office, he volunteered to make a home visit. They also worked to see if they could get the patient accepted by Residential Hospice. These three exceptional employees went the extra mile to help a vulnerable family in our community get the care they needed."
Thank you Amber for being a shining example of our mission and values.
