Franklin County issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.
Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler, is confirming the death of a male subject from the motorcycle accident from Wednesday night on Route 37 south of West Frankfort.
9-1-1 call went out at 8:07 p.m. on Wednesday night. Witness report states that two motorcycles collided causing one male subject from the front motorcycle to be airlifted to an Evansville, Indiana Hospital, and the other male subject being pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The front motorcycle was trying to turn when the second motorcycle struck the front motorcycle from behind, causing both to be ejected from their motorcycles, neither cyclist was wearing a helmet.
The motorcyclist that was pronounced dead at the scene was that of 47 year old Jason Andrew Call of Makanda, IL. Mr. Call sustained head trauma from the accident.
The condition of the other motorcyclist is unknown at this time.
The Franklin County Sheriff Department is handling the investigation. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident.
