Ewing Township issued the following announcement on Jan. 29.
Cold weather extremes can be dangerous. Take extra caution if you must go outside.
1. Minimize outside activities (especially the elderly and the very young).
2. Dress in layers. Wearing several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing will help keep you warmer. Make sure outer garments are water repellent.
3. Wear the right gear and protect your extremities. Winter gloves or heavy mittens, waterproof boots, hat, and scarf are all essential in this weather.
4. Excessive exposure can lead to frostbite (see attached photos).
5. Do NOT leave pets outside during cold weather extremes.
6. Know the warning signs of hypothermia (see attached photos).
7. Be safe with heat sources. When using alternate heating sources take the necessary precautions to ensure they are ventilating properly.
8. Be a good neighbor. Check in with elderly or disabled relatives or neighbors to ensure they are safe.
