SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.
A measles outbreak has U.S. public health officials urging vaccinations for children. Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads by coughing or sneezing and can remain in the air for up to two hours in an isolated space. Health officials say the outbreak is a textbook example of why it’s critical to vaccinate against measles, which was eradicated in the U.S. after the vaccine was introduced in 1963.
