City of Benton Zoning & Planning Commission met June 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

The Benton Zoning and Planning Commission's public hearing was called to order by Chairman Shockley at 6:04 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 1403 at the Benton Municipal Building at 1403 South Main Street.

Roll Call: Shockley, Cockrum, Clark, Payne-Hubler, Neal, Collier Also Present: David Garavalia, Zoning Administrator; Members of the public

A motion to approve the May 1 Public Hearing Minutes was made by Payne-Hubler and seconded by Cockrum.

Ayes: Shockley, Cockrum, Payne-Hubler, Neal, Collier Nays:

Abstain: Clark

A motion to approve the May 1 Regular Business Meeting Minutes was made by Cockrum and seconded by Payne-Hubler.

Under new business, the committee discussed The Mobile Home Ordinances, presently on-file. Ms. Payne Hubler brought up the fact that most neighboring communities do not require mobile home permits to be renewed on a regular basis and asked the committee to consider options/alternatives to the requirement.

The committee also spent time examining the GIS in order to develop a plan for simplifying and condensing inconsistent zones.

Under public comments an attendee stated that they felt that the ordinance should be enforced to deter criminal activity brought on by dilapidated mobile homes as well as updating the code to recognize differences between mobile and manufactured modular homes.

Mr. Garavalia stated that a public hearing would, likely, need to be held in July for a special use permit on S. McLeansboro street and would provide information to the secretary regarding same in the weeks to come.

Having no further business or public comments, a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Collier and seconded by Payne-Hubler.
