SSM HEALTH GOOD SAMARITHAN HOSPITAL - MT. VERNON: Received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on July 20.

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital-Mt. Vernon has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

This is the second-consecutive year SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital has been awarded the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

The awards recognize hospitals that demonstrate at least 85% compliance in each of the seven Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Achievement Measures. The different levels reflect the amount of time for which a hospital demonstrates performance:

• Bronze recognizes performance of 90 consecutive days

• Silver recognizes performance of 12 consecutive months

• Gold recognizes performance of 24 consecutive months or more.

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital has also met specific scientific guidelines as a Primary Stroke Center, featuring a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department.

Naturally, for hospitals to receive awards such these, it takes more than one person. At Good Samaritan Hospital, a multi-disciplinary team comprised of physicians, clinicians and staff work diligently together every day to achieve this type of success and provide the level of care our patients need – and deserve.

The multi-disciplinary team at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital encompassed:

• Emergency Department

• Hospitalists

• Radiology Department

• Neurology

• Laboratory

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
