Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) posted his “Severin Says” weekly update on his official website Aug. 17, covering statewide events occurring that week. Severin included pictures of himself attending the various occasions.
Severin opened the message by wishing children and parents a “safe, happy, enjoyable, and productive” school year as many schools begin to start their learning seasons soon. Severin personally thanked all teachers, school staff, school board members and administrators for their hard work in providing education to children throughout the years.
Severin also stressed that parents should be cautious of traffic safety as children cross streets to get on school buses or walk to and from school, directing them to the Illinois State Board of Education’s guide for school bus safety.
Severin attended the District Office’s Open House this week, greeting and enjoying refreshments with constituents in the district.
On Saturday, Severin participated in a power plant and coal mine tour at the Prairie State Generating Co., learning “interesting” information about the plant’s operations.
SIU Family Medicine welcomed Severin to their new building’s ribbon cutting and open house ceremony on Thursday. The medical school opened its newest facility on SIH Memorial Hospital’s campus located in Carbondale.
Severin’s Summer Reading Club will be enjoying the Night at the Ballpark with the Southern Illinois Miners at Rent One Park on Aug. 27. Those who submitted club applications and did not receive information about this event can contact Severin’s office.
As the DuQuoin State Fair kicks off from now until Sept. 2, Severin announced that the 2019 Ducky Derby Dash will be making an appearance at the fair on Sept. 1. Patrons can race ducks across the water to earn the grand prize of $2,000 or win additional prizes such as a vacation to Riviera, Mexico, NASCAR tickets and a zip line experience with a one night stay in the Tuscany Romance Suite at Blue Sky Winery, among others.
Finally, New West Frankfort Police Chief John Prudent put on a presentation in front of Severin and his colleagues at the West Frankfort Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
