Foodmoblie

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.

Every three (3) years, SSM Health in Southern Illinois hospitals (Good Samaritan Hospital-Mt. Vernon and St. Mary's Hospital-Centralia) conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).

Each CHNA is conducted, completed, and implemented through collaboration with various community partners - and each CHNA includes :

• Gathering health-related information from secondary data sources (e.g. Community Commons, Public Health Departments, etc.)

• Interviewing key health officials

• Conducting community health surveys to identify concerns within our communities

• Assessing the number of area-based programs and organizations that exist to address the community’s needs

The needs identified in each CHNA are then prioritized based on the level of importance to community members and the ability of our hospitals to make a significant impact.

One of the priority community health needs identified in SSM Health in Southern Illinois' most recent CHNA (completed in 2018) is: Improve nutrition in the community through greater access to and intake of healthy fresh fruits, vegetables, protein and dairy.

Along with the University of Illinois Extension, one of our many collaborative community partners, the 4H Mobile Market is available the 2nd Thursday every month in Fairview park in Centralia (1035 West McCord Street) - providing fresh produce, dairy, and other perishable foods.

For more information, please call 242-0780.
