Franklin County issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.
The Franklin County Board held a special meeting at noon today for the purpose of selecting a new States Attorney. The position was vacated by newly appointed Judge Evan Owens. The Franklin County Board appointed Phillip Butler to the position. Butler has served as an Assistant States Attorney in the office under Owens. Butler was sworn into the office shortly after being appointed by newly sworn in Judge Evan Owens.
