Zeigler-Royalton Community Unit School District 188 Board of Education met Nov. 28.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

The meeting was called to order by President, Randy Domineck, who asked for roll call.

ROLL CALL: Dover-absent; Vaughn-present; Domineck-present; Chamness-present; Bush-present; Olkoski-present; Kirkpatrick-present.

PUBLIC COMMENTS OR CORRESPONDENCE

None.

A motion was made by Mr. Olkoski, seconded by Ms. Kirkpatrick, to approve consent agenda, which includes the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting, review and payment of bills, and treasurer's report.

ROLL CALL VOTE: Domineck-yes; Chamness-yes; Bush-yes; Olkoski-yes; Kirkpatrick-yes; Vaughn-yes. Motion Carried.

CORRESPONDENCE & ZRFT COMMENTS

ZRFT Comments

Mr. Russell spoke to the board about possible stipend for junior high golf once the length of the season is determined. Mr. Russell also addressed the board about an issue with teachers staying after-school for meetings without additional compensation.

TEAMSTER COMMENTS

None.

SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT

During the Triple III conference board delegates will have the opportunity to vote on a couple of new resolutions concerning school safety. The first resolution is whether local school boards

should have the option of developing Student Safety and Protection plans that would allow local school boards to determine if an employee would be able to carry a concealed firearm on school property. The individual would have to complete numerous trainings and certifications.

The other new resolution being voted on is a creation for a safety grant program at the state level that would help schools in hiring Resource Officers. This grant would help districts located in rural areas with providing additional money towards hiring trained individuals that work with local law agencies.

A motion was made by Ms. Kirkpatrick, seconded by Mr. Domineck, to approve FY 19 district audit as presented.

ELEMENTARY/JUNIOR HIGH PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

October has been a busy month in our elementary. Students in our pre-K through 4th grade fall field trips to the pumpkin patch and to the DuQuoin fairgrounds for the conservation fair. I want to thank our teachers for being so great about sharing photos of these events with families on our social media pages.

Our first quarter report cards went home last week. Midterm reports will be posted on November 15th.

Our basketball season is off to an early start. I want to congratulate those students that made the basketball teams and wish them luck with this season.

Make up pictures and winter sports pictures will be on November 7th.

HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

On October 10th the High School hosted its 1st ever PBIS Fall Fest to promote and reward positive behavior of our students. The event was a huge success and I would like to give recognition to the staff and students for their dedication in making it go so smoothly and the PBIS Team for their efforts with the idea and putting it all together. Boys Golf Team member Riley Cross participated in the Sectional golf match on October 14 after a great outing at the Regional match, which qualified him for the sectional outing. Additionally, our entire girls' team advanced to the

sectional match, which was also hosted on October 14th. This is the first time that our golf program has had an entire team advance to a sectional. Congratulations to Coach Hargraves and the golf program on a fantastic season. Coach Wingo and the volleyball team wrapped up the regular season last week and Regionals begin this week. We are hosting our 1A regional here at ZR so I encourage all of you to come out and support the girls. We play tomorrow night against Christopher in our 1st round match-up. We will be sending the seniors to Rend Lake College tomorrow to participate in the annual career day expo. Mr. Stevens and Mrs. Eberhart will be supervising them on their trip. The Red Cross will host a Blood Drive at the high school this Wednesday October 30. Meet the Teams for the ZR Boys' Basketball and Cheerleading Programs will be on Saturday, November 23. There will be a dinner fundraiser hosted by the ZRHS Booster club that begins at 4:00 pm and the Meet the Teams activity will begin at 6:00 pm that evening. As we move on with the 2nd quarter I just wanted to commend our students and staff for their efforts and hard-work throughout the 1st quarter. It has been a fantastic school year so far!

A motion was made by Mr. Domineck, seconded by Mr. Chamness, to go into executive session to discuss compensation, employment, hiring, termination, of prospective or current employees (personnel), review executive session minutes, professional negotiations, and matters of student discipline, security, and litigation.

ROLL CALL VOTE: Kirkpatrick-yes; Vaughn-yes; Domineck-yes; Chamness-yes; Bush-yes; Olkoski-yes. Motion Carried.

The Board entered the executive session at approximately 6:15 p.m.

The Board returned from the executive session at approximately 7:16 p.m.

Mr. Domineck, President, asked that the meeting re-convene and asked for roll call.

PERSONNEL

A motion was made by Mr. Chamness, seconded by Mr. Olkoski, to hire Matt Morgan as high school principal.

ROLL CALL VOTE: Domineck-yes; Chamness-yes; Bush-yes; Olkoski-yes; Kirkpatrick-yes; Vaughn-yes. Motion Carried.

A motion was made by Mr. Chamness, seconded by Mr. Vaughn, to accept the resignation of Matt Morgan as high school dean of students.

ROLL CALL VOTE: Bush-yes; Olkoski-yes; Kirkpatrick-yes; Vaughn-yes; Domineck-yes; Chamness-yes. Motion Carried.

A motion was made by Ms. Kirkpatrick, seconded by Mr. Olkoski to accept the resignation of Joe Dover as school board member and post vacancy.

ROLL CALL VOTE: Kirkpatrick-yes; Vaughn-yes. Domineck-yes; Chamness-yes; Bush-yes; Olkoski-yes. Motion Carried.

A motion was made by Mr. Chamness, seconded by Mr. Bush, to approve Joe Hargraves as junior high golf coach.

ROLL CALL VOTE: Vaughn-yes; Domineck-yes; Chamness-yes. Bush-yes; Olkoski-yes; Kirkpatrick-yes. Motion Carried.

OTHER BUSINESS

None.

At approximately 7:39 p.m., with nothing further to be brought before the board, a motion was made by Mr. Olkoski, seconded by Mr. Vaughn, to adjourn.

During the regular board meeting held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Zeigler-Royalton High School study hall at 6:00 p.m., an executive session was held from 6:15 p.m. until 7:16 p.m.
