Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Dec. 19.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on December 19, 2019 at the high school. called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Sara Hays, Matt Smith

Visitor Communication: Matt Smith spoke to the board concerning the overnight trip to Springfield for the Youth and Government group February 28 through March 1.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the consent agenda items as presented.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Chad Phelps to go into closed session at 6:07 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Steve Danner to return to open session at 6:50. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the tax levy as presented. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve Woodlawn Grade School handbook changes 2nd reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the press policy manual updates 2nd reading.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Steve Danner to approve the Youth and Government overnight trip to Springfield February 28-March 1.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Leslie Knox to hire Shane Witzel and Danny Czerwinski as grade school golf co-coach for the 2020 season.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Jeff Burkett to set long term sub pay rate at $150 per day (double the normal sub rate) after 10 consecutive days worked.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the superintendent to apply for the $50,000/$50,000 maintenance grant.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Dianne Fristchle to approve the Health Life Safety project as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

A motion was made by Dianne Fristchle and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the property tax relief grant application.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Dianne Fristchle to go into recess at 7:10 p.m. and return to session at 7:17 p.m.

A motion was made Steve Danner and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the threat assessment plan as presented.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fristchle and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the part-time student request to allow seniors to attend a 1⁄2 day at Woodlawn and a 1⁄2 day at Rend Lake College.
