City of Mason City Council met February 10

Webp meeting 05

City of Mason City Council met Feb. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe

Council members physically present were Dan Mason, Scott Francis, Kevin Snyder, Jim Miller, and Julie Mize. Alderman Mahin was absent… Also present were Treasurer Mike Griffin, City Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon, Officers Donovan, Sheridan and Schoonover. Christy Crites from CMT also attended the meeting.

Chairman declared quorum present.

Chief Donovan introduced new full-time officers Shannon Sheridan and Ashley Schoonover to the Council.

Christy Crites addressed the Council regarding an older grant the city was awarded several years ago from the Dept. of Economic Opportunity for the pump station. The city paid for the project in full years ago and has been waiting to be reimbursed from the grant an amount of approximately $18, 750.00. The grant money was “frozen” several governors ago and the chances of it being released to pay the unpaid grantees is very slim. The City along with the assistance of CMT has been filling out quarterly reports for many years to keep compliant with the grant qualifications. The opinion of Ms. Crites is to just forgo any expected reimbursement from the grant and to close it out. The amount of paperwork involved and the continuing cost to have the engineering assistance and other added expenses to keep compliant just isn’t a sensible option anymore since the City is most likely to never see reimbursement.
