Woodlawn Unit School District 209 Board of Education met Feb. 24.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held on February 24, 2020 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Sara Hays, Morgan Clinton

Visitor Communication: Morgan Clinton introduced herself to the board. Morgan is the full-time sub that is filling in for Mrs. Morgan.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the consent agenda items as presented.

All members voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Jeff Burkett to go into closed session at 6:05 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to return to open session at 7:49 p.m.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Steve Danner to approve the FBLA overnight trip to Springfield on April 2-4 with around 50 students, Mrs. Owens and Mrs. Witzel chaperoning.

A motion was made by Dianne Firtschle and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve the 1st reading of the catastrophic leave; option 4.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the QNS proposal as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the 2020 audit proposal by Glass & Shuffett, not to exceed $8800.00.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Steve Danner to accept the resignation of Hope Mason as the grade school track coach.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded Dianne Fritschle to accept the resignation of Jan Danner as grade school athletic director, effective at the end of the 19-20 school year. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, pass;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Jeff Burkett to hire Kate Page and Lori Maharrey as the grade school track coaches on the 1st step salary.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the grade school graduation for May 8th at 7:00 and the high school graduation for May 12th at 7:00. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

The tax abatement resolution was tabled.
