Benton Consolidated High School District #103 Board of Education met March 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Benton Consolidated High School District #103 met in Special Session on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. in the District Board Room. President, Mark Minor called the meeting to order.

Opening prayer was led by Mark Minor. Kenny Irvin led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board members present: Mark Minor, President; Robin LaBuwi, Vice-President; Mark Dyel, Secretary Pro Tempore; and Kenny Irvin. Board members absent: Mitch Bennett and Shane Cockrum.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; and Ronda Suver, Board Recording Secretary.

Mark Dyel made a motion to allow Mitch Bennett to participate in the meeting via telephone. Robin LaBuwi seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

4. EXECUTIVE SESSION

Executive Session – Robin LaBuwi made the motion to enter into Executive Session to discuss the Appointment, Compensation, Discipline, and Performance of Personnel; Collective Negotiation Matters; and the Selection of a person to Fill a Vacancy in Public Office. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

The Board; Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; and Ronda Suver, Board Recording Secretary entered into an Executive Session in the Executive Board Room at 4:05 P.M.

Open Session - The Board reconvened in an Open Session at 4:36 P.M. Mark Dyel, Secretary Pro Tempore called the roll. Answering present: Mark Dyel – yes, Kenny Irvin – yes, Robin LaBuwi – yes, Mark Minor – yes, and Mitch Bennett – yes. Board member absent, Shane Cockrum.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; and Ronda Suver, Board Recording Secretary.

7.1 Employment of Personnel Robin LaBuwi made a motion to employ Jennifer Gibbs as a teacher for the 2020-21 school year. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

Kenny Irvin made a motion to employ Emily McKinney as a teacher for the 2020-21 school year. Robin LaBuwi seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

Robin LaBuwi made a motion to approve Kevin Hamilton as the boy’s tennis coach for the 2019- 20 school year. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

7.2 Accept Resignation of School Board Member Robin LaBuwi made a motion to accept the resignation from Mark Franklin as school board member effective February 20, 2020. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

7.3 Approve Overnight Trip for Baseball Team to Belleville/O’Fallon Mark Dyel made a motion to approve overnight trip for the baseball team as presented. Mitch Bennett seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

9. ADJOURNMENT Kenny Irvin made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:45 P.M. Robin LaBuwi seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.
