Chicago (26,606 cases) and Cook County (18,617 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,068, while Cook County recorded 854 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 346,286, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 50 to 59, with 12,428 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 31,635 were male and 32,987 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 1,624, while female deaths stood at 1,212.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,204 African-Americans, 425 Hispanics, 119 Asians, 1,204 whites, and 135 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
