City of Mt. Vernon City Council met May 18.

Here is the agenda provided by the council:

Public Forum Rules of Participation

Participants wishing to address the City Council on matters listed on the agenda or on any other matter directly relevant to the business of the City of Mt. Vernon shall do so during the Public Participation portion of the agenda. Each person wishing to speak during the Public Participation portion shall sign a Speaker’s List at the meeting prior to the start of the meeting providing his/her name and the topic to be discussed. Speakers will be recognized by the Mayor in the order the speaker’s name appears on the Speaker’s List. Public participation portion of the meeting shall be limited to five (5) minutes per person. All participants are expected to exercise common courtesy and follow any rules of order established or announced by the Mayor and/or City Council.

9-A Request permission to waive bidding requirements for the purchase of new audio-visual equipment for City Council meetings

9-B Request to go out for bid for fencing around Opdyke Tower and Eagle Court/Vernwood water storage tank

9-C Request to go out for bid on two lawnmowers

9-D Request permission to close 9th Street from Jordan to Casey and Jordan from 10th Street to 8th Street on Saturday, May 30th for a Mobile Food Market provided by the United Way and University of Illinois Extension

9-E Request permission to close Casey Avenue from 17th Street to 19th Street on Saturday, May 30th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Casey Middle School drive-thru graduation ceremony

9-F Request to delay water rate increases to village contracts

9-G Cancelation of Salute to Freedom 4th of July fireworks
