City of Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on May 28.
United Way of South Central Illinois, SSM Health & Illinois Extension are helping those in our community struggling during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our friends from the Mt Vernon Festivals and the Rotary Club of Mt Vernon, are joining us again to distribute during this Mobile Market.
This is a drive-thru pick-up event. Those wishing to receive a bundle from the Mobile Food Market on Saturday should line up along 9th Street between Jordan and Harrison, making sure not to block the intersections at Broadway and Main Street, OR they may line up on Jordan St from the EAST heading WEST which would be the area of the old high school, again not blocking intersections.
Jordan Street will be blocked off from 9th to 10th Streets to eliminate congestion on 10th Street/Route 37 due to it being a State Highway. There will be 400 bundles this week and a volunteer will place a small number on your windshield. This is to let volunteers know how many bundles are left and so people do not wait in line if no produce bundles will be available by the time they get there. Please stay in your vehicle. Pop-The-Trunk and volunteers will place Cusumano & Sons produce box. All volunteers will be wearing gloves and face masks to prevent chance of contamination.
