SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on June 10.
Now more than ever, the need for telemedicine is expanding rapidly. Invested in the highest quality of care for our patients, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital offers telemedicine services for a number of specialties in an effort to bring world-class SLUCare physicians close to home. Through this virtual platform, our team can provide patients and their families with real-time remote consultation and evaluation through interactive video and audio communication.
Providing care at a distance
Through video conferencing, our team:
Provides outpatient visits and access to highly skilled pediatric specialists in nearly 60 specialties
Allows us to consistently meet scheduled outpatient needs of pediatric patients
Who is eligible?
Both new and established patients are eligible for this service, however, it's at the discretion of the provider and purpose of the appointment.
New and established patients in Missouri and Illinois, birth to 18.
How it works?
Once your child has been scheduled for a telemedicine appointment, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access and use this service.
To complete the telemedicine visit:
The child must be present and awake for the virtual visit along with a parent or legal guardian
A quiet room is preferred with no other siblings or distractions (TV, music, video games).
Make sure to have a WIFI/Internet connection and your smartphone/tablet battery is fully charged.
If using a tablet/smartphone, please place it propped on a flat, stable surface, such as a table or counter top. This is so the patient and legal guardian can be easily viewed with minimal movement.
Have pen/paper available for any questions and/or instructions for the nurse and/or provider.
You need to have My Chart access in order to get your discharge instructions and information for scheduling a follow up appointment.
On the day of the appointment, a clinic nurse will call the phone number you have provided 30-60 minutes prior to your child's scheduled appointment time. At the time of this call, the nurse will review your child's information, such as allergies, pharmacy choice and current medications. Once this is complete, you will be ready for your appointment.
What our patient families are saying
“Our telemed visit was wonderful. We felt the same love, care and compassion through the computer as we do in the office. We can’t wait to be able to show our appreciation through hugs at our next visit.
--Lauren S., mother of patient using cardiology telemedicine services
“Our telemedicine visit with SSM Cardinal Glennon Neurology was a fantastic experience. With everything going on around the world related to COVID-19, our telemedicine visit enabled us to safely stay home and meet with our doctor to discuss our son's health. We saved time traveling to the hospital and we were able to spend more time than usual with our doctor. Hopefully, after this is all over, telemedicine will become a more common venue for certain health care visits.”
--Christopher O, father of patient using neurology telemedicine services
“We really enjoyed our virtual teletherapy appointment. Having an abrupt end to classroom teaching, therapy visits and activities outside of the home has been a lot for my child to process. Our daughter’s teletherapy appointment has been a wonderful resource to navigate how to meet her needs at home. Not only did our therapist work through obstacles our daughter was experiencing, but provided resources to us as parents that are helping our entire family. We are so thankful that Cardinal Glennon is offering teletherapy and will continue to use this incredible resource!”
--Susie A., mother of patient using occupational therapy telemedicine services
“My daughter had an upcoming appointment with Dr. Goretzke and my husband and I were very concerned about taking her into the office. Thankfully, Dr. Goretzke and his team offered us an amazing opportunity through telemedicine and we were able to keep the appointment. I can't say enough about how easy it was and how helpful the staff was guiding us through the process. Getting convenient and safe medical treatment during this time, from the comfort of our home is a huge relief. Thank you so much.”
