Jefferson FPD responds to 92 fires in 2018

Jefferson Fire Protection District responded to 108 calls in 2018 - 32.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Jefferson included 92 fires - 36 structure fires, 21 vehicle fires and 35 other fires.

In all, the department saw $698,200 in fire loss - or about $7,589 per fire.

The department also received 16 false calls, including five malicious calls and 11 other false calls.

The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Jefferson FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and six retired or inactive employees, was $140,381 in debt as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,040 for every fire in 2017.
