City of West Frankfort issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.
After careful consideration, and taking into account the health and safety of everyone involved, the City of West Frankfort has made the difficult decision to cancel the Christmas Light Parade scheduled for Tuesday, November 24th. This is not a decision we take lightly and there are two overriding concerns that have prompted us to make this decision at this time.
First is the increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, along with the uncertainty caused by the Governor’s announcement which recently imposed Tier 3 mitigations going into effect on Friday, November 20th.
Second is right now, the most important thing all of us can do is focus our attention on taking care of our families and ourselves. The City of West Frankfort will continue to do everything we can to help our community stay safe, informed and connected.
Even though we will not be having a parade this year, we will light the Christmas tree on Tuesday evening. We hope everyone will drive by and enjoy the hard work that Connie Howard, Debbie Ricci, the Main Street Beautification Group, Commissioner Stanley and our awesome street department have invested in our downtown greenspace project.
Stay safe and have a wonderful Holiday Season!
