City of Mt. Vernon issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
On Thursday December 17th, Samron Midwest Contracting will remove the bridge over the spillway creek near the intersection of Forest Avenue and S. 27th Street.
Forest Avenue between S. 26th Street and S. 27th Street will be closed for several months as crews replace the bridge with a new box culvert, realign Forest Avenue and reconstruct the roadway.
This is part of the reconstruction of S. 26th Street from Veteran's Memorial Drive to Forest Avenue.
Please use Veteran's Memorial Drive or Logan Street as detours through the area.
