Franklin County issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.

In an effort to continue to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency is making over 20,000 cloth face masks available to the public free of charge. The masks are available to any Franklin County citizen who would like one and will be distributed at key locations in cooperation with local municipalities, faith based organizations and community groups. The face masks were provided to Franklin County at no cost by the Southern Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief, Illinois Baptist Association, and Illinois Voluntary Organziations Active in Disaster (IL-VOAD). Assistance for this program was also provided by the Williamson County Emergency Management Agency.

“As COVID-19 illness and deaths continue to rise in Franklin County, I am encouraging those who need a face mask to visit one of our distribution sites to obtain one”, said Director of Emergency Management Ryan M. Buckingham. “As we gather together to celebrate with our family and friends this holdiay season, let’s also keep in mind the simple things we can do to reduce our risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19".

The public can visit any of the following locations now to pick up a packet of five (5) free face masks:

Benton City Hall, 1403 S Main St, Benton, IL 62812
