Benton Community High School District 103 Board of Education met Nov. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Benton Consolidated High School District #103 met in Regular Session on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 5:00 P.M. in the Benton Consolidated High School Board Room. President, Mark Minor called the meeting to order.

Opening prayer was led by Mark Dyel. Kenny Irvin led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board members present: Mark Minor, President; Robin LaBuwi, Vice-President; Mitch Bennett, Secretary; Shane Cockrum, Mark Dyel, and Kenny Irvin. Board member absent: Marci Glover.

Others present: Benjamin Johnson, Superintendent; Ron Giacone, Board Attorney; Lyndsey Moore, Faculty Member; and student council representative.

4. CONSENT AGENDA

4.1 Approve Minutes:

(a) Regular Board Meeting Minutes, October 22, 2020

4.2 Approve Financial Report (October 2020)

4.3 Approve Payment of Bills (October 2020)

Shane Cockrum made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Mitch Bennett seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, members voted as follows: Shane Cockrum – yes, Mark Dyel – yes, Kenny Irvin – yes, Robin LaBuwi – yes, Mark Minor – yes, and Mitch Bennett – yes. Motion Carried.

5. ADMINISTRATIVE REMARKS

Mr. Johnson gave updates on the following:

• Construction projects: Tabor Field, Parking lot, & Scoreboard • Enrollment: 125 students fully remote

• Staff out with COVID: 1

• Annual Curriculum Meetings

• IHSA announcement: all winter sports/activities on pause

8.1 Review/Approve Rice Sullivan, LLC Engagement Letter Robin LaBuwi made a motion to approve the engagement letter with Rice Sullivan, LLC as presented. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.

8.2 Set/Approve Tax Hearing Date and Adopt Tentative Levies Robin LaBuwi made a motion to approve the Resolution Adopting Proposed Aggregate Tax Levy for the Year 2020 as presented and set the tax hearing date for 12/15/2020 at 4:45 P.M. Kenny Irvin seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried. A copy of this Resolution has been attached to and made a part of these minutes.

9. BOARD OF EDUCATION REMARKS Robin LaBuwi mentioned a news conference which stated that schools should remain open as they are some of the safest places for students at this time.

Mark Minor bragged on the dance team and their ability to overcome challenges.

10. ADJOURNMENT Kenny Irvin made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:31 P.M. Shane Cockrum seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, all members present voted yes. Motion carried.
