Benton Community Consolidated School District 47 Board of Education met Nov. 23

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of Benton Community Consolidated School District No. 47, Franklin County, Illinois met in Regular Session at 5:00 p.m. via video conferencing. President Brad Wilson called the meeting to order. Upon roll being called those members present were: Gary Messersmith, John Metzger, Bob Pankey, Lex Stewart, Derek Stowers, Brad Wilson, and Ron Winemiller.

4. CONSENT AGENDA

John Metzger moved to approve the Consent Agenda. The items assigned to the Consent Agenda were as follows:

4.1 Approve the Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting on October 26, 2020 

4.2 Approve Treasurer’s Report (October 2020)

4.3 Approve Payment of Bills (October 2020)

4.4 Accept Resignation of Teacher Aide, Kyler Smith, effective November 12, 2020

Derek Stowers seconded the motion. Upon roll being called the following vote was recorded: Gary Messersmith – yes, John Metzger – yes, Bob Pankey – yes, Lex Stewart – yes, Derek Stowers – yes, Brad Wilson – yes, and Ron Winemiller - yes. Motion carried.

5. PUBLIC COMMENTS

6. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

Ellen Gibbs reported to the Board of Education Regarding:

7. NEW BUSINESS

7.1 Lex Stewart moved to approve Resolution for Tentative 2020 Tax Levy Payable in the fall of 2021. John Metzger seconded the motion. Upon roll being called the following vote was recorded: Gary Messersmith – yes, John Metzger – yes, Bob Pankey – yes, Lex Stewart – yes, Derek Stowers – yes, Brad Wilson – abstained, and Ron Winemiller - yes. Motion carried.

9. BOARD COMMENTS

∙ Brad Wilson and Board Members agreed to cancel the annual Board of Education Christmas party.

∙ Lex Stewart asked if property tax payments are being received in a timely manner. Dr. Smith reported about payments.

∙ Dr. Smith suggested board meeting times be adjusted to accommodate schedules. December 2020 board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m.

∙ Dr. Smith told members that election petitions are available at the Franklin County Election Office.

∙ Dr. Smith updated the Board regarding the Governor’s recommendation regarding school closures moving forward.

∙ Ron Winemiller indicated that Future Rangers will not use the school facilities until our students are allowed to participate in sports.

∙ Derek Stowers asked how remote learners behind in curriculum returning in January will be helped. Ellen Gibbs said that plans are in process to place the returning students in appropriate classes to help them reach maximum potential, as well as, supplying additional assistance as each individual student requires.

10. ADJOURNMENT

Bob Pankey moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:35 p.m. Ron Winemiller seconded the motion. Upon roll being called the following vote was recorded: Gary Messersmith – yes, John Metzger – yes, Bob Pankey – yes, Lex Stewart – yes, Derek Stowers – yes, Brad Wilson – yes, and Ron Winemiller - yes. Motion carried.
