Ewing Township issued the following announcement on Jan. 29.
The following should be attributed to MTA Executive Director Neil Sheridan, in response to Gov. Whitmer’s State of the State Address:
Every Michigan community and resident has been hard-hit by the pandemic—and everyone looks forward to the road to recovery. Good roads are one area that is crucial to economic and quality-of-life vitality and development, and MTA supports efforts to fix our state’s road and bridges, including increasing options to raise funds locally if the community or region so chooses. Throughout the unprecedented challenges of the past year, townships have continued to provide essential programs and services, including frontline emergency services. As townships support their communities, they also need continued support from the state. The financial burden of fixing Michigan’s roads, for example, cannot simply be shifted to our already cash-strapped local governments and taxpayers. We look forward to working with the governor and Legislature on safer, smoother roads ahead for Michigan.
