EWING TOWNSHIP: Blendon Township Treasurer Joins Michigan Townships Association Board of Directors

Ewing Township issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.

Blendon Township (Ottawa Co.) Treasurer Greg Golembiewski has been appointed to the Michigan Townships Association (MTA) Board of Directors. Golembiewski will serve as director of MTA District 15, which encompasses Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa Counties.

“On behalf of the entire MTA Board of Directors, we are thrilled to welcome Greg to our ‘family’ of township officials who works together to help guide the Association and its work for Michigan’s townships,” said MTA President Jeff Sorensen, supervisor of Cooper Charter Township (Kalamazoo Co.). “We look forward to Greg’s contributions to our organization as our state and its local governments lead their communities through the continued challenges, as well as opportunities, and the recovery that lies ahead.”

Golembiewski brings numerous local government and community experiences to his new role. He is vice chair of the Ottawa County Treasurers Association, currently serves on the township’s safety services committee, and previously was appointed township interim clerk and has served as chair of the township compensation committee. As an MTA director, he hopes to serve as a connection between townships and other levels of government.

“As a Board member, I will work hard to bridge the gap between local, state and federal government by ensuring that the lines of communication remain open in order for all of us to be supportive of each other,” he said.

Golembiewski has served as board chair at Rivertown Community Federal Credit Union since 2008, and is a small business owner. Serving his community’s residents is the most rewarding experience of public service, Golembiewski said.

“My job is most rewarding when I know that I have helped residents with their questions—understanding tax bills, from millages to administrative fees, and obtaining exemptions,” he said. “Every day, I want to make a positive difference in the lives of residents who live in our township.”

A past United Auto Workers Local 730 president of the former General Motors stamping plant in Grand Rapids, Golembiewski received the organization’s “Spirit of Solidarity Award” in 2010.
