Ewing Township issued the following announcement on Mar. 3.
Peter Kleiman, supervisor of Harris Township (Menominee Co.), has been named 2021 president of the Michigan Townships Association (MTA). Kleiman’s term leading the largest municipal association in Michigan will conclude following the Association’s Annual Educational Conference & Expo in April 2022.
Kleiman has served his residents as township supervisor since 1988 and has served on the MTA Board of Directors since 2011. He is a member of the Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Regional Commission executive committee, and was Menominee County Farm Bureau president for 15 years and remains on its board. He has also served as president, vice president and secretary of the Menominee County MTA Chapter.
Joining Kleiman on the MTA Executive Committee are: William Deater, Grant Township (St. Clair Co.) supervisor, as first vice president; Pauline Bennett, Addison Township (Oakland Co.) clerk, as second vice president; Connie Cargill, Golden Township (Oceana Co.) treasurer, as treasurer; Harold Koviak, Burt Township (Cheboygan Co.) supervisor, as secretary; Jeff Sorensen, Cooper Charter Township (Kalamazoo Co.) supervisor, as immediate past president; and Kevin Beeson, Pine River Township (Gratiot Co.) supervisor, as member-at-large.
The MTA Executive Committee, along with the entire MTA Board of Directors, meets numerous times throughout the year, and adopts strategic policies that guide the Association’s operations to best serve Michigan’s 1,240 townships.
