Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board met May 20.

A regular board meeting was held at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Sara Hays, Belinda Kirgan

Visitor Communication: None

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Lesli Knox to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Jeff Burkett to go into closed session at 6:04 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)). Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Motion carried.

A motion as made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to return to open session at 7:46 p.m. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the principal contract as presented for 4 years, with an amendment to the 2020-2021 contract. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve the assistant principal contract as presented for 3 years, with an amendment to the 2020-2021 contract. All members present voted by roll call vote: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, pass; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the 2nd reading of the Woodlawn High School handbook changes. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Leslie Knox to hire Cindy Brendel as a kindergarten teacher beginning the 2021-2022 school year, on step MS with 15 years experience. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to hire paraprofessionals for the 2021-2022 school year; Annie Wehreheim, Liz Bunton (2 years experience), and April Hocking. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was bade by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Chad Phelps to hire Brya Scott as the grade school softball coach for the 2021-2022 school year. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Michele Chesnek to hire Randi Johnston as the grade school girls basketball coach for the 2021-2022 school year. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the 1st reading of the grade school handbook changes. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Leslie Knox to give the superintendent authority to negotiate and proceed with an approved bus contract extension. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Steve Danner to approve the insurance renewal as presented by ICRM trust for $54102.00. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

Item VII 8 (2nd grade textbooks) was tabled.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the grade school/high school math textbook McGraw Hill purchase (Algebra I/ Algebra II/Geometry) for $14007.75. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the grade school/high school entry access control project from Security Alarm for $21756 & $96/month/ with 75% reimbursed from COPS grant. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion as made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the grade school/high school digital message centers from THam Signs / 10mm 3’ x 8’3” at the grade school for $30489.73 and 10mm 2’6” x 8’3” at the high school, both double sided for a total of $60,909.88, purchase is pending ESSER II Grant approval. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Steve Danner to approve the grade school freezer purchase from J&R Electrical for $13865.00, purchase pending the ESSRII approval. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the superintendent to pursue bids for a high school bus drive. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve the superintendent spending authority to $7500.00. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the summer school project as presented. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Steve Danner to approve the 2021- 2022 remote learning policy to reflect the state’s guidance of a medical note is required from a medical professional and restrictions placed on extra-curricular participation. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Steve Danner and seconded by Leslie Knox to adjourn at 9:14 p.m. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Steve Danner, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Motion carried.
