City of Mason City Council Met May 24.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:00 P.M.

Council members physically present were Scott Francis, Gerald Mahin, Jim Miller, Danny Mason, Julie Mize, Kevin Snyder. Superintendent Wayne Dixon, Chief Adam Anderson, Karen Miller and Richelle Smith also attended the meeting. Treasurer Mike Griffin and Clerk Michele Whitehead were both absent.

The minutes of the May 10th regular Council meeting were approved.

R21-52 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the regular session minutes of the May 10th, 2021 meeting

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Richelle Smith asked permission from the Council to landscape on city property in front of her house on Logan Street. Permission was granted.

R21-53 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mize to allow Richelle Smith to landscape on city property in front of her home, with the home owner being responsible for the expense and upkeep.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Karen Miller addressed the Council regarding the Fall Festival. This year’s festival will have a circus theme. Mrs. Miller asked for permission to block off N. Tonica to Hull Trucking for the festival, which is to be held September 17th and 18th, 2021.

R21-54 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mize to approve blocking off of S. Tonica Street to Hull Trucking for the fall festival, as well as approval for a bingo tent along S. Tonica Street.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Mrs. Miller also inquired about a monetary donation from the City for the fall festival. The City cannot just hand out donations, it must be appropriated for. The city does appropriate a set amount every year for a donation to help with the fall festival. The set amount is $500.00, which will be donated to the fall festival.

R21-55 Alderman Francis moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the donation of the appropriated amount of $500.00 to the fall festival.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

An amendment to owner-engineer agreement was presented in regards to CSO improvements. The engineer offered a credit in the amount of $4010.00 The amendment was approved.

R21-56 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Francis to approve the amendment to Owner-Engineer agreement in the amount of a credit of $4010.00

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

The Council commented on how nice the flower planters throughout the downtown area look.

Superintendent Dixon is having no luck selling the old generator.

Town wide cleanup will be held June 18 and 19, 2021.

It was suggested that the city appropriate more funding for tree removal and if the city would like to participate in the feral cat spay/neuter program, that funding needs to be appropriated as well.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:31 P.M.
