City of Mason City Council met Aug. 23.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:02 P.M.
Council members physically present were Gerald Mahin, Jim Miller, Julie Mize, Kevin Snyder arrived at 7:02. Superintendent Wayne Dixon, Officer Angie Douglas, Treasurer Mike Griffin, and Clerk Michele Whitehead also attended the meeting. Guests present were Brian Durbin and Karen Miller. Alderpersons Francis and Mason were absent.
The minutes of the August 9th regular Council meeting were approved.
R21-80 Alderman Mize moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the regular session minutes of the August 9th 2021 meeting
Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller and Mahin.
Nays: None
Absent: Alderpersons Francis and Mason.
Chairman declared motion carried.
Brian Durbin addressed the Council regarding a citizens group working on converting the “HUB” into a student center. The group has also purchased the building on the corner, and their hopes are to promote economic growth within the downtown area.
Karen Miller addressed the Council regarding street closures for the Fall Festival. Superintendent Dixon replied that the barricades would be at the closure locations so that they are available for the festival committee to close the roads when needed.
Compliments were given to the Public Works crew for their work on the sidewalks and trees.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:25 P.M.
