Rend Lake College issued the following announcement on Oct. 7
A topic that is often not discussed will be brought out into the open during a presentation on the Rend Lake College campus.
Licensed clinical social worker Hayley Orendoff will lead a discussion on intimate partner violence, a serious public health problem that affects millions of Americans, including college students. The presentation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Student Center Private Dining Area, at 2 p.m. and will last approximately 45 minutes.
The term “intimate partner violence” describes the physical violence, sexual violence, stalking or psychological harm caused by a current or former partner. Before the presentation, Orendoff will have an information table set up in from of the Student Center from noon until 2 p.m.
All RLC students, faculty and staff are invited to attend and join in the discussion in how the issue affects the veteran population and the impact it has on them and their families. There will also be information on other resources and interventions.
October is Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in four women and one in nine men experience some form of severe intimate partner violence and/or stalking.
Orendoff is the Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program Coordinator for the Marion VA Medical Center. Her primary responsibilities are to provide clinical, evidence-based services to clients, including assessments, interventions and program development. She is also in charge of caregiver and staff education on intimate partner violence, resource development and evaluation.
About the Presenter
After she earned her master’s degree in social work from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2008, Hayley Orendoff became licensed and entered into private practice where she furthered her love for treating children and families that had experienced trauma. She gained her clinical licensure in 2015. She has been working at the VA since 2018, starting as a therapist in behavioral health and working with clients in the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Treatment Program. She held the position as Military Sexual Trauma Coordinator before becoming her current position in 2021.
Orendoff has lived in Southern Illinois her entire life. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her three children, hiking, kayaking, coaching travel softball, gardening and taking a nap.
