City of Sesser City Council met Oct. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular Meeting of the Sesser City Council was called to order by Mayor Ashmore at 6:30 PM. Prayer was led by Andrew Bevis from the Apostolic Church. The pledge of allegiance was said. The mayor asked all veterans to remain standing and thanked them for their service. Mayor Ashmore asked Clerk Stacey to call the roll. In attendance were Rodney Zettler, Wayne Shannon, Rich Miller, Travis Zettler and David Bates.

A motion was made by Rich Miller and 2nd by David Bates to approve the minutes of the September meeting. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

Agenda Item #1

No TIF Memos at this time.

Agenda Item #2

A motion was made by Rich Miller and 2nd by David Bates to approve the change order #1 for the Water Systems Improvements-Phasel-Contract B Elevated Water Tank Rehabilitation to increase the amount of time to complete to August 31, 2022. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

Agenda Item #3

Mayor Ashmore explained the donation to Sesser YAP for the Hometown Heros event. A motion was made by Wayne Shannon and 2nd by Rich Miller to approve a donation of $500.00 to Sesser YAP for the Hometown Heros event. All of those in attendance were in favor of the motion except Travis Zettler who abstained from the vote. Motion carried.

Agenda Item #4

Mayor Ashmore read the letter from the SV TAP team requesting financial assistance for Red Ribbon Week. A motion was made by David Bates and 2nd by Travis Zettler to approve a donation to SV School for Red Ribbon Week in the amount of $100.00. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

Agenda Item #5

Mayor Ashmore and Treasurer Dilliner explained the IML Treasurers Institute and the costs that would be involved. A motion was made by Rich Miller and 2nd by Travis Zettler to approve the costs for Jeanette Dilliner to attend the IML Treasurers Institute on November 14-18 with costs to cover being hotel and travel. **Jeanette is the Education Chair and is required to be in attendance, her registration feel is covered due to her serving as Education Chair. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

Agenda Item #6

Mayor Ashmore explained the library flooring bids that had been received by the library board. A motion was made by David Bates and 2nd by Wayne Shannon to approve the flooring bids for the Sesser Library and to proceed with the low bidder Al Byrns Construction for $4,500.00. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

Attorney updates: John Bigler gave update on the Romani property and the Opioid settlement.

Mayor Ashmore also reported we had received the first installment of the ARCA monies-federal money.

A motion was made by David Bates and 2nd by Travis Zettler to approve the bills as presented. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Wayne Shannon and 2nd by David Bates to approve the treasurer report as presented. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Rodney Zettler and 2nd by Rich Miller to approve the police report as presented. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Rich Miller and 2nd by David Bates to approve the Code Inspector report as presented. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Rich Miller and 2nd by David Bates to approve the Tourism Director report as presented. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.

Public Comments:

Kevin Acosta-How soon or late can we get information to you for the newsletter? The school is going to have some type of Veteran recognition for Veteran's Day, if any Veteran would like to participate, they should let Kevin know.

Ned Mitchell-Ned informed the council that the lights on the Volleyball, Tennis Courts and Basketball Courts are still not working very well-some not at all. When will they be fixed? Mayor Ashmore informed him that Lioyd Electric were aware of the problem and would get to it when they can. Mr. Mitchell also informed the council that we have at least 5 homeless people in Sesser that he knows about-what are they going to do for them? Mayor Ashmore said they help them as much as they can when they come to the police for help.

Rich Miller informed the council that he has taken a job in Arlington, Texas and will be moving soon. He will step off the council as of November 1, 2021. He has enjoyed serving the City of Sesser.

A motion was made by Rich Miller and 2nd by David Bates to adjourn at 7:15 PM. All those in attendance were in favor of the motion. Motion carried.
