Carrie Gibbs, director of the Shrode Art Center at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon, discussed why she likes working with clay while working the wheel to create vases Thursday afternoon in the Learning Resource Center at Rend Lake College.
The art demonstration presented an opportunity for students to learn more about the medium and what career paths they could take as art majors. Gibbs also reflected on her newest collection and how the process helped her navigate through some tough times.
"You really become a scientist, an alchemist and an artist all in one," Gibbs said.
