Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Dec. 16

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A regular board meeting was held at the grade school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sara Hays, Belinda Kirgan, Sidney Bailey, Brett Anderson

Visitor Communication:

Sidney Bailey spoke to the board concerning the current method valedictorian is selected at the high school

Brett Anderson spoke to the board concerning the masks mandate, the Christmas program, and going against state mandates.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Kyle Ritchie to go into closed session at 6:19 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to return to open session at 7:39 p.m.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;

Motion carried

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Jeff Burkett to approve the tax levy as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to hire Katie Trout as the WGS scholar bowl coach for the 21-22 school year.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VII 1. Audit was tabled.

Item VII 2. Board policy updates was tabled.

A motion was made by Kyle Ritchie and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve WHS part time student request of Elaina Montgomery, Regan Webb, Kallista Fitzjerrels, Will Bullard, and Eli Fauss.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VII 4. WHS student handbook reading died due to lack of motion.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to hire Tony Kirkpatrick as the WGS athletic director.

All members voted by a roll call vote:

Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, pass;

Motion carried

Item VII 6. Gym use by JCLL died due to lack of motion.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Michele Chesnek to adjourn at 8:32 pm. Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes;
