Woodlawn Unit School District #209 Board of Education met Feb. 23.

A regular board meeting was held on February 23, 2022 at the high school. The meeting was called to order by Scott Owens at 6:00 pm. Roll Call was taken with the above members present. Also Present: Eric Helbig, Sandra Kabat, Belinda Kirgan, Brett Anderson, Kathy Asbery, Sara Hays (remote)

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Jeff Burkett to open the public hearing on E-Learning plan revision.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Chad Phelps to close the public hearing.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes

Motion carried.

Visitor Communication: None

A motion as made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Kyle Ritchie to approve consent agenda items as presented.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Leslie Knox to go into closed session at 6:10 p.m. for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity (5 ILCS 120/2 © (1) and Collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. (5 ILCS 120/2 ©, (2)).

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Michele Chesnek to return to open session at 7:04 p.m.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the board policy updates 2nd reading (#660 Option A).

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

Item VII- rescind suspension- no action needed.

A motion was made by Leslie Knox and seconded by Kyle Ritchie to accept the resignation of Chris Cheatham as WGS baseball coach, effective immediately.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to hire Kathy Chaunard as a WGS paraprofessional on step 0.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Chad Phelps to approve the 2022 graduation dates of May 13 for WHS and May 17 for WGS.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Leslie Knox to approve the 2022-2023 proposed calendar option A (start 8/11, 12/20-1/2 Christmas Break, 5/26 last possible day) Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the TRS supplemental saving plan.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Kyle Ritchie to approve the site work for the construction project done by Neikirk Engineering.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jeff Burkett and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the project agreement with FGM.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Chad Phelps to authorize the superintendent to solicit transportation bids.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michele Chesnek to approve the district maintenance projects included proceeding of WHS plumbing cleanout and WHS pipe bursting. All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Chad Phelps and seconded by Michelle Chesnek to hire CMB mowing for 2022. All members present voted by a roll call vote as follows:

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the overnight trips for FBLA and Youth and Government.

Members voted: Scott Owens, yes; Leslie Knox, yes; Chad Phelps, yes; Dianne Fritschle, yes; Kyle Ritchey, yes; Jeff Burkett, yes; Michele Chesnek, yes

Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michele Chesnek and seconded by Dianne Fritschle to approve the District E Learning plan as presented.

A motion was made by Dianne Fritschle and seconded by Kyle Ritchie to approve the “Return to School Plan” – with presented change of tier 4.

All members present voted yes by a roll call vote.
