Superintendent’s Report:
Financial Quarterly Report- The third quarter budget report is included in the board packet.
Evidence Based Funding- It was confirmed that the state will invest an additional $350 million in this year’s budget. For reference, that amount equaled an additional $181,160.45 for this fiscal year. Since the budget passed, I would expect a similar increase to next year’s EBF state payments. Additionally, there was a piece of legislation that was passed recently to correct a data error within the funding model in which Chicago Public Schools was overpaid approximately $87 million. The legislation provides back pay to districts who lost funding as a result. Our share is $17,869.05.
Consolidated District Plan- The Consolidated District Plan is an annual process that is part of being awarded Federal Title Grants. It addresses how the district meets the compliance standards of the grants.
Officials Pay Increase- At the last county junior high meeting, the rest of the county schools approved increasing pay for game officials from $60 to $75. It is recommended that we do the same or securing officials would most likely be extremely difficult. Additionally, HS volleyball, baseball, and softball need to be raised to $75 to keep consistency between JH and HS.
Prevailing Wage Ordinance (PA 100-1177) This is just a reminder that the district no longer needs to pass a prevailing wage resolution each year. The mentioned law, which became effective last year, eliminated that requirement.
Junior High Bowling Program- Since the junior high bowling program was new this year, I wanted to report the details. There were 19 kids that participated. In their first year as a program, we had one female earn a trip to the state meet. Additionally, the boys competed as a team and placed sixth overall. The total cost for the program was $1,569.
High School Athletic Conference- The conference voted Patoka and Red Hill into the conference for next year. It was our thought that Patoka was a good fit, but Red Hill was not because of size and distance. However, there were enough conference votes to approve both schools.
Sports Co-operative with Farrington- The group met to discuss various aspects of potentially forming a co-operative for all junior high sports. We need to have a discussion at the meeting to decide if the Board is in favor of moving forward.
ROE Community Partnership Grant- The ROE has been awarded a Community Partnership grant which was a collaborative effort with school districts throughout the ROE (us included) for $635,000. This will provide social emotional learning resources, after school/summer school programming, community engagement, and professional development for teachers. I am working to write our request for the grant. When I know the amount we will receive, I will provide further information.
