Rend Lake College and Withers Broadcasting/Dana Communications hosted the 2022 Job Search Party at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Wednesday night in Mount Vernon. Dozens of employers met with jobseekers at the three-hour, annual event.
Jacob Parks and Braden Young, both of Mt. Vernon, decided to swing by and meet some employers. Young is graduating from RLC in May with his Associate of Science Degree in Computer Science. He’s secured a summer internship at Scott Air Force Base where he’ll be working with a contractor on network operations. Parks has a degree from Rend Lake and certificate in cyber security and is currently taking classes at RLC and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale toward his Bachelor of Science in IT this spring.
“I’m looking for a job,” Parks said. “There are a lot of employers here. It’s good.” Both admitted that being in the IT field comes with a good variety of job choices. “I’m taking some classes at RLC that count toward my degree at SIU,” Parks said. “The classes cost less at Rend Lake and I really like the program and my instructor there.”
Rend Lake College frequently has job opportunities. Harry Heitmeyer and Kim Rogers from the college's Human Resources department ran the Job Search Party booth for RLC. In addition to a friendly work environment and great hours, full-time employees get free tuition to RLC for themselves, their spouse, and dependents. Jobs at RLC can be found online at rlc.edu/jobs.
