The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (37-17) learned where it is heading for the 2022 NAIA Baseball National Tournament Opening Round on Thursday, May 12.
The Cougars are set to head to Kingsport, Tennessee for the second year in a row. The Cougars will head into the Kingsport Bracket as the No.4 seed and will take on No.5 Madonna University (27-13) out of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference on Monday, May 16. The NAIA National Tournament appearance for Head Coach Keith Veale's team is the eighth appearance in program history.
The rest of the Kingsport Bracket consists of No.1 seeded and host team, Tennessee Wesleyan University (51-5) from the Appalachian Athletic Conference, No.2 seeded Warner University (40-16) out of the Sun Conference, and No.3 seeded Cumberlands (43-14) out of the Mid-South Conference.
If MVNU wins its first matchup against Madonna, it will take on Tennessee Wesleyan later that day. Last season, it was Tennessee Wesleyan who ended MVNU's season. The Cougars fell in the Opening Round to the Bulldogs by a final score of 3-5.
With a loss against Madonna, the Cougars would play on Tuesday, May 17 against the loser of Warner/Cumberlands.
If MVNU wins the Kingsport Bracket, it will head to Lewiston, Idaho for the NAIA Baseball World Series, hosted by Lewis-Clark State on May 27-June 3.
